Tour de Whidbey - 2008
Tour de Whidbey is always blessed with good weather and
this year's ride was no different.
The ride is also blessed with some of the best volunteers
in the Northwest and thus we dedicate this year's photos to them.
Without so many helping hands there would be no fun.
There would be no great ride each year.
We weren't able to get photos of every volunteer
but we tried to get as many as possible.
So take a moment and look at this year's photographs and
help us to say thank you to all that make the ride possible.
You will also notice between photos of volunteers
photos of cyclists at this year's event.
Each year there are a lot of Northwest cyclists on board
to support the Whidbey General Hospital Foundation.
Like with all the volunteers, there would be no event
without the support of area cyclists.
Many cyclists come from Whidbey Island, but many more come
from Vancouver, Canada all the way down to Portland, Oregon.
There were also cyclists at this year's event from as far away
as Alaska and the eastern United States.
We didn't get pictures, but this year's event had
the first Family Loop and Bike Rodeo for area kids.
The family loop was a big success with local kids and parents.
We look forward to this new option for many years to come.
What makes the ride so popular is the before ride pancakes
and after ride chili....
This is of course with one unmatched route
and scenery at every bend and turn in the road.
Another important aspect about Tour de Whidbey are the rest stops.
Each stop is manned by a different volunteer group on the island.
All rest stops compete, one against the other,
to give the best service at the event.
At ride end you can relax at beautiful Greenbank Farm
with feet kicked up, sipping on local wines and chatting with friends.
Thank you volunteers for making Tour de Whidbey
one of the Pacific Northwest's number one cycling events.
